Property Description

IL PIGIONALE is a beautiful centuries' old building that will enchant you with its local traditional features: the original authentic fireplace, used for cooking, or the original staircase... you will be captured by the fusion of antique and modern style and mostly you will fall in love with the atmosphere of this small Tuscan village. Non touristic route, Pergine Valdarno, will show you the normal everyday life of the locals going to get an espresso in the morning or buying their fresh bread. everyone will make you feel welcome and if you're lucky enough to spend some days here, you will finally feel part of it.

Outdoor

The terrace, where one can enjoy a glass of wine, is open directly on the small square of the village and has garden furniture. The square is a pedestrian only area, making it particularly quiet and clean. Necessities such as a grocery, bakery, restaurant, bank, post office, pharmacy and police are all within short walking distance.

Interior Description

Il Pigionale used to be the hostel of this medieval village! A stone tower over two levels with a narrow terrace to lead you to the entrance.
A grapevine grows from a tiny hole in the stone to give you shade while sitting and looking at people passing by on the main square, why not, with a glass of wine in your hand?
By the entrance the dining room with a wooden round table, a cupboard and a fireplace for a very well equipped kitchen. To the left of the entrance the living room with sofa and a screen with streaming TV. There is also a bathroom built in the staircase of the house!
Opposite the main entrance an old stone staircase takes you to the second floor with two separate rooms, a double bedroom and a bedroom with 2 single beds.
Even if the house is always very cool even in the hottest summer days, both rooms are air conditioned. A bathroom with shower, sink and toilet serves the second floor. WiFi available.
A large laundry room, in the basement of the house, with washing and dryer machine (and washing soap), iron and iron board with hanging wracks.

Bathrooms

Both bathrooms have sink, shower and toilet. You will find a courtesy set with shampoo, bath shower gel and hand soap made in Tuscany with Extra virgin Olive oil. Towels, carpet and hairdryer also available.

Kitchen

The kitchen is well equipped with microwave, stoves, oven, coffee machine, toaster, dishwasher and of course utensils. We provide basics such as coffee powder, sugar, salt, locally made olive oil, vinegar and little snacks. Also dish soap and dishwasher tabs are part of the kitchen equipment.

Sitting Room

The living room is large and bright. A comfortable sofa with two armchairs make a cozy corner to watch TV with Netflix and Amazon Video.
A big wardrobe decorates the room and a very unique gaming table to sit and play or use your computer!

Guest Reviews for Il Pigionale

It was a lovely place. Wish we could've stayed longer!

Easily the best accommodation we have had on our whole trip round Italy. Lovely little property in a quiet Tuscan village, with a great welcome from beautiful hosts. What more can you expect?

Villa was perfect, the village was so peaceful and the people very friendly and helpful.
Irene was the most thoughtful and helpful host I have ever known. Her local knowledge and information made such a difference to our somewhat random plan. Such a beautiful area and staying at Il Pigionale made it a fantastic holiday. Thank you, Irene.

This little house had everything we needed. The village is just what my husband and I were looking for - quaint, quiet, friendly, and close to many larger towns for day trips. However, the best part of this rental was the unexpected awesomeness of Irene and Edoardo - the owners and hosts. The two of them made our experience unforgettable, personable, and unique. They were always on the ready for advice or suggestions, and even were available to be tour guides. They became more like friends than tour guides! We will definitely go back and stay at one of Irene and Edoardo’s places!

This property is outstanding. The village is pure Tuscany, small enough to have the charming allure but large enough to have ammenities. The property was wonderful. Clean, well equipped with anything you might need. The property manager Irene bent over backwards to be of any assistance. Rent this property! You will no be dissapointed

Our stay at Il Pigionale was one of the highlights of our trip. You really experience the local ‘italian’ feeling. The nature in the area is very beautiful, the accomodation looks juist as in the pictures and is very clean and cosy and the host is very helpful and kind. We recommend staying at Il Pigionale and we will definitely come back!

An amazing experience. For all we did in Italy, the time in Pergine Valdarno and our wonderful time with our host are by far our favourite memories. A great villa, a great host, and a fantastic village lifestyle that one can simply blend into. A beautiful experience!

I higly recommend this Villa and the owner as well. :)
2-floors, stylish furnished and equipped with all necessary things.
Beutiful garden with swimming-pool (did not use it, as we stayed in Nov).
All rooms with bathrooms - it is very comfortable.
Irene is a perfect host! She took care of us and show around a village.
Her tips and hints were very useful.
This is a truly TUSCANY place :)
Would love to come back on summer with friends.

We had a fabulous stay in this friendly village. The apartment was really lovely. Everyone should stay here! The dinner was the high-light of the visit. Irene was very helpful. It was nice to stay in a small family run apartment, as it had all the personal touches.

The gracious, attentive service of the hostess, Irene Gren, throughout our stay and the cooking lesson in her home was the highlight of our 16 day vacation in Italy. Her guidance on sights, restaurants and travel were very helpful.

The Villa is charming and the village itself lets you to believe that you are lost in Tuscany away form the big city pace. Our hosts were charming and the meal they had us help prepare was great fun and did i mention very filling

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Perrine Valdarno and Il Pigionale. The family who owns the villa is absolutely delightful and hardworking. This location is in a quiet village with basic services, including a restaurant, within a city block's walking distance and is situated in a central position to explore Tuscany. Of course, like previous renters, we loved the "Cooking night" at the owner's farmhouse.

We had a wonderful time in Tuscany and Il Pigionale was one of the main reasons. It's an old building but in perfect shape, spotlessly clean, and thus very charming. The piazza in which it's located is scenic and lovely.

Most important, Irene, the property manager, was friendly and helpful and flexible and...just great. She was a big part of making this a really memorable stay.

A lovely little village in the heart of Tuscany. Friendly locals and great views. The house was charming and the service from the owners excellent.

Magnífica ubicación para visitar la Toscana. Pueblo muy tranquilo. Los propietarios encantadores.
En las fotos, la propiedad parece mas grande de lo que realmente es. El baño de la habitación inferior es incomodo.

A wonderful holiday

The villa was everything we hoped for. We loved being right in the piazza. The neighbors were so friendly. Irene couldn't have been more helpful and we enjoyed getting to know her family when we had our cooking lesson at their house. What a wonderful night!! I would definitely recommend this villa to family and friends.

One of the best and most relaxing vacations we have had. A very nice small villa in a beautiful small community that had everything you needed to make yourself at home. The location was perfect as it was an easy drive on a day trip to other locals we wished to visit. The owners were most accomodating and the dinner cooked and served at their home was probably the highlight of the trip. Everybody participated in the cooking with Irene and her mother doing the coaching. We will definitly return and highly recommend it to anyone who wants to escape the big cities, spend time in the beautiful Italian countryside and actually spend time with the locals. It was a great experience!

This was the first place we stayed on our two week trip traveling in Italy. It was a perfect experience of the small village life and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It turned out to be a central location to travel to other sights, and then could return for a quiet and peaceful night get rested for the next day of adventures. The town also had quaint coffee cafe, butcher, baker, bar and restaurant

We had a fabulous time in Pergine Valdarno travelling with our teenage daughters. We were travelling without a car but this was not a problem. We were met at the train station in Ponticino by Irene who drove us to the accommodation. From our initial introduction Irene was absolutely delightful. She was very enthusiastic and accommodating. Nothing was a problem. Irene took us on a tour of the local town which has everything - a butcher, pharmacy, bakery, fruit and veg, local supermarket, restaurant. The property was very clean and had a lot of character being over 500 years old. Not having a car was not a problem as Irene offered to escort us to wherever we wanted to visit. We visited Arrezzo, Siena, Cinque Terre and Pisa with Irene driving and accompanying us. To have Irene in our company was a highlight of our travels and her ability to communicate with the locals meant that we had a real Tuscan experience. We ate at places that served authentic Tuscan food and were away from the tourist area. Irene's rate for this service was very reasonable. Another major highlight of our stay was the cooking lesson with Irene and her beautiful Mum Marina. We were made to feel like part of the family and the food was delicious!!! To share a traditional home cooked meal with Irene and her family was a real treat. We would love to come back to Tuscany and would most certainly stay again at one of Irene's properties. Make sure that you visit Carabe Italian Gelato & Granita whilst in Tuscany. Antonio makes the freshest and best Gelato. We thank you Irene for our amazing memories of Tuscany.

Such hospitality!! We would stay again in a heartbeat! Irena and her family made us feel like homored guests. We didn't want to leave. Thank you!!

We had a hot water to sink problem, not surprising as we were first in for 2014.
Fixed quickly by very friendly owners. All beds possibly the most comfortable in Italy.

We were looking to experience authentic Tuscany and that is exactly what the Gren family offered. They were there to greet us and then welcomed us into their home for a cooking lesson (which actually felt like a dinner with old friends!). The village is quaint and has everything you need and the villa is in an ideal location. Highly recommended for families - our three adult kids loved it!

We had a great time in this small village. Il Pigionale was very nice, well situated in the village, and was a great place for the four of us to start our journey in Italy. Irene was a wonderful host which made our stay that much more enjoyable!

We spent 6 wonderful days in Tuscany staying at Il Pigionale. It was just what we had hoped it would be! It is in a small little village with just what you need, a small grocery with meats, cheeses, and wines, a little fruit and vegetable store, a church (which I think everyone in the village attended Sunday), a bakery,
and two bars where you get your morning coffee and roll! ( All within walking distance)! The people in the village all knew we were visitors and were very welcoming to us! We felt like we were a part of the village! The young brother and sister that manage it
are precious and we feel in love with them! One of
our favorite experiences of the whole trip was our cooking lesson and dinner at their home. We were apart of cooking a wonderful Tuscan dinner including Tiramisu!!!! They are a lovely family and the evening was delightful!!
The house was perfect for two couples with a bedroom downstairs and two upstairs. We both had our own bathrooms!
It is centrally located for day trips to Arezzo, Florence, Siena, Assisi, etc.
Thank you Irene and Edourdo for all of your suggestions, kindness , and especially allowing us us to experience authentic Tuscan life!!!!

Fantastic property. I was there with my 4 adult daughters for a very special trip together and il pigionale provided such an authentic stay in Tuscany. Irene and Edwardo were so helpful. the antique furnishings were charming and the location to local products was so convenient. I would highly recommend it. sondra Sieg

Wow ! What a great seven days ! the accommodation was perfect, the location couldn't have been better suited to day trips, and the hosts were fabulous. The cooking lesson with Marina and her entire family, followed by dinner was an experience none of us will soon forgat.
When we figure it out we will send photos.
Serafina's was just the icing on the cake.

A quiet house in the middle of Tuscany

Il Pigionale in the lovely little village of Pergine Valdarno was the perfect home base for sight seeing in Tuscany. The property was lovely and comfortable. The village was perfect, just what I had envisioned of a true Italian village. A wonderful restaurant, LeCantine, within walking distance served outstanding food and wine at very reasonable prices. We will definitly come back to Il Pigionale and Pergine Valdarno.

We are pleased that we chose Il Pigionale as home base for our 2 weeks in Tuscany. The property provided everything the four of us needed. The village had an excellent restaurant within easy walking distance as well as a butcher, fruit and vegetable market, drug store, small grocery store and even a bar!

Ons verblijf in Il Pigionale was super.

Our stay at Il Pigionale was super. The house has all the necessary amenities and is situated on a graceful little square. Bread, butcher, restaurant and supermarket are all within walking distance and it is also a good base for exploring the surrounding area. There is a Prada outlet at only a few km. The owners are very pleasant and helpful people. We could use their pool and cooking lessons with Marina is a must.

My husband and I recently had a week at Il Pigionale and it was just perfect! We had been touring for 5 weeks and really needed some relaxation and stability for a while. The apartment was very comfortable and homely (such a plus to have the washing machine)and everything we needed was available in the village. The location in Tucany was very central making it an easy drive where ever we wanted to go. The local markets are wonderful. We would highly recommend this stay.

This location was a very good base to visit popular sites of Tuscany like Sienna, Arezzo, Montepulciano, Florence, San Gimignano, Cortona. Montevarchi. There was a very good restaurant within walking distance with great food and wines at a reasonable price, The Cantine. The villa was comfortable but the living quarters were on the small side for five. We found the stairway to the second floor somewhat dangerous for a child. We had a great stay.

The property is located in a beautiful village with gorgeous views. It contains everything you would want for a relaxing and comfortable stay.

We've rented villas and cottages in France, Canada and the USA, and this is one of the nicest. The 5 of us found Il Pigionale comfortable, charming and practical; it is newly renovated and everything was in good working order. Situated in the Piazza del Commune of the quaint Pergine Valdarno, everything needed is close by: small grocery store, fruits and vegetables and a butcher. It is worth spending time in the village and buying and preparing one's own food - everything was delicious.

The owners, Marina and Francesco, and their cildren Giulio and Irena were very hospitable and always helpful. Marina guided us in the preparation of a delicious Tuscan meal at their home, which was enjoyable.

The village of Pergine Valdarno is in the heart of Tuscany - 45 minutes from Florence, Siena, Cortona, and Assisi is only about 90 minutes away.

We (husband, wife and 15 year old son) had a great time at Il Pigionale. It is the quintessential Tuscan villa. Located in a small village on a hilltip. The village has an excellant restaraunt, butcher, fruit shop and small supermarket. Under the house was a fully equipped laundry, that came in handy. The owners of the villa were fantastic. Waiting for us was one bottle of white wine and one bottle of red. We also took up the option of a free cooking lesson with Marina in their home (about 20 kms away). It was a highlight of our trip. We make pasta, meat dish plus a pie for desert, all from first principles. Then we ate the diner together with their family. Sensational. They are perfect hosts. The villa is centally located to all points in Tuscany, although a car is essential. The villa is beatifully finished. I am sure you would not be disappointed. Highly recommended.
