Chianti Wine Regions
In Day 2 of our spotlight on Villa Fabbroni we'll be taking a closer look at the region around the villa, as well as a look at more of the units that make up the property.

San Polo in Chianti
Chianti was originally a very small region consisting of only three small communities near Siena, but was reformed in 1932 to include more area but still in well-defined districts. Many towns suddenly found themselves in a noble wine region and took his honor to heart. San Polo, as well as the Commune of Greve that it resides in, added the suffix of in Chianti to their name. The region around San Polo and Greve prided itself on its contributions to the so-called “Super Tuscans” prior to gaining the “in Chianti” appellation, but many of the wineries jumped at the chance to produce one of the signature wines of Italy.

“We had a wonderful week at Villa Fabbroni. It was lovely and the pool was very cool looking over the mountains in between olive trees. The apartment was spacious and well equipped. Our hosts were welcoming and very informative about Tuscany. The meals we ate at the villa were delicious and I recommend the Tuesday Night pizza. The villa is a great place for families and we hope to return there in the future.”

San Polo in Chianti is in a great location for anyone visiting Tuscany, with Florence to the north and beautiful Siena to the south and near the small but very interesting town of Greve in Chianti.

Not to mention the quaint small town appeal of San Polo, almost completely off the beaten tourist path so that you will see parts of Tuscany many will not. A rental car will be a must for those staying at Villa Fabbroni, but the peace and isolation you’ll get at the end of the day will be more than worth it.

In yesterday’s article we covered some of the smaller units in Villa Fabbroni, La Loggia and Il Portico. Today we will be taking a closer look at the next two units, La Fattoria and La Colonica.

La Fattoria
La Fottoria, the ‘farm’ apartment, at Villa Fabbroni sleeps six people and has two bathrooms with showers. It has a large living / dining room with a gorgeous fireplace that can also double as a barbecue. The kitchen is just off the living room and is well equipped.

“Villa Fabbroni was just as we had hoped. Great location. Great property. Pool and grounds were beautiful. Stefano and Sergio were there to help with anything we needed. Sergio's weekend dinners were fabulous. We all can not wait to return.”
Julie from Austin, Texas

La Fattoria also has a private courtyard with garden furniture for you to enjoy your evenings, possibly with a glass of Vin Santo after a nice Italian meal. The apartment has original Florentine terracotta tile floors as well as the wood coffered ceilings that add to the authentic old world charm; this is no modern apartment made to look old.

La Colonica
As one of the larger units at Villa Fabbroni, La Colonica can sleep up to eight people in its four double bedrooms. This unit is an independent farmhouse that is set ten meters from the main villa and has two bathrooms with showers. Walking through the front door you will see the large open kitchen and living room, complete with fireplace.

La Colonica has the same wood coffered ceilings and terracotta floors you will see throughout Villa Fabbroni, with gorgeous antique furniture that will seem to pull you back in time. The farmhouse has a private courtyard with garden furniture where you can enjoy the views from your villa.

“We absolutely LOVED our stay at Villa Fabbroni! Besides the charm and beauty of the physical surroundings, the hosts (Sergio and Stefano) were warm, helpful, and always available. The delicious and authentic cuisine created in the restaurant was the best we encountered in all of Tuscany! The location also makes it perfect for exploring both the Chianti countryside as well as lovely Florence. We will most definitely come back and HIGHLY recommend this to anyone who wishes to have a special experience.”

Make sure to check back tomorrow for our final installment in the Villa Fabbroni, listing the largest of the properties, Il Padronale, as well as the private restaurant that the owners operate in the villa itself!
