Go On A Day Trip Of The Charming Bagni Di Lucca Area

Ponte delle Catene Fornoli
Why not spend some of your Tuscan holiday in the picturesque Bagni di Lucca region in Northern Tuscany where there are many delightful towns, villages and hamlets in close range with lots of tourist activities to engage in! A related article discusses the charms of the Bagni di Lucca region and the famous thermal baths that placed it firmly on the map. Here is a thrilling day trail for tourists to explore the most interesting communities in the area and of course, there are plenty of holiday villas in the Bagni di Luca area with panoramic views of the mountains and valleys that encase it.

Begin the day with a tour around the large main town of La Villa. Packed full of shops selling local produce, crafts, clothes and more, La Villa also has many tasty restaurants and bars to enjoy a lovely meal or cup of coffee in the sunshine. This is a wonderful place for visitors to see a well kept typical Tuscan town filled with welcome and charm.
Serchio Ponte a Serraglio
The pretty village of Guzzano is less than ten minutes drive from La Villa and is located further up the mountains. An excellent time to come here is during late summer when the many olive trees growing here ripen. Locals would greatly appreciate a tourist’s hand with picking as they’re rushing to meet the three hundred kilos minimum required for the public oil press to get their yearly supply! Many here use an amusing yet effective method of placing an upside down umbrella under a branch and letting the picked olives fall into it! The views from Guzzano are breath-taking and well worth a visit for that alone.

The next hamlet is Lucchio, situated 780 metres above sea level and seemingly glued to a steep mountain side. This journey is not for the fainthearted as the village is networked by very steep cobbled pathways. Believed to be the second smallest community in Italy, Lucchio has a population of less than fifty people! But the quaint old stone washing fountain and other ancient monuments in the village are worth visiting. Tourists can also savour the exquisite chestnuts and porcini mushrooms that grow locally and are served in some delicious dishes here. It makes this steep journey worth every step!
Bagni di Lucca by Night
Visit Montefegatesi next which is the highest village in Bagni di Lucca at a whopping 840 metres above sea level! It’s built on the top of a steep mountain and is home to some magnificent Tuscan architecture. Stroll around the 13th century church of San Frediano which houses some spectacular religious art as well as an impressive archaeological collection. A statue of the famous poet, Dante Alighieri is built here as it’s believed he fled here during his exile and was inspired by the surroundings when writing his famous work, ‘Divine Comedy’.

Finish this exciting day in Monti di Villa, where during Christmas a superb live nativity is played out followed by a wonderful fireworks display.

Tourists could buy some beautiful artisan crafts in the town shops to take home as treasured souvenirs of this memorable trail! This trail is the perfect way for visitors to see the best of the Bagni di Lucca region of Tuscany in a short time!
