In the town of Certaldo in Val d’elsa in Tuscany, where he is alleged to have been born, there is a quaint little museum that contains interesting information about his life and works. Visitors can even watch a short film that depicts the colourful life that this creative man experienced and an insight into his engaging storytelling style.

Piero della Francesca was a Renaissance painter who was born in 1415 in Sansepolcro in the province of Florence. He went on to become an initiator in the movement of practicing the use of vibrant colour and humanism styles in his work. His most famous work resides in the church of San Francesco in Arezzo, titled, ‘The Legend of the True Cross’ and visitors can see many of his other portraits in museums in Arezzo city.

Other fantastic examples of his work are ‘Resurrection’ that is on display in his hometown of Sansepolcro, ‘Madonna del Porto’ in Monterchi and several others in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence city. His serene humanism style and potent colour use put him firmly on the map as one of the innovators of classic Renaissance style.
