Walk Around Pisa's Majestic Baptistery

Pisa Baptistery
The Splendid Baptistery of St. John in Pisa’s Piazza dei Miracoli is nothing short of a masterpiece! It was built as a lavish adornment of the adjacent cathedral and is just as magnificent in appearance. It is the largest Baptistery in Italy at a massive 107.25 metres in circumference!

Stay in a stunning villa rental in Pisa where you can easily travel into the city and see all the cultural delights it has to offer.

This Baptistery is a perfect example of the transition from classic Romanesque architecture to a more striking Gothic style with the lower section of it displaying a softer more rounded appearance in contrast to the pointed arches as you look up towards the domed roof.
Interior of Pisa Baptistery
The Baptistery of St. John has a simply decorated interior but it’s no less breath-taking. See the beautiful pulpit sculpted by Nicola Pisano, father of Giovanni Pisano who actually designed the pulpit of the nearby Duomo!

Artworks adorn the interior walls with many depicting scenes from the life of St. John as well as some admirable works of art depicting the Virgin Mary and John. If you could catch a choir performance within these walls, you’re in for a treat indeed!

The acoustics of the Baptistery are simply mesmerising…the sound seems to travel through the air endlessly!
Inside of Pisa Baptistery's dome
The Baptistery of St. John is actually leaning a little itself due to the soft ground on which the monuments of Piazza dei Miracoli were built. Like the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the Cathedral, due to less of a degree literally; it’s inclined at a slight 0.6 degrees towards the Duomo. The total construction time for the Baptistery amounts to 211 years in total and was originally designed by a talented architect called Diotisalvi.

Come and see this masterpiece for yourself when you visit the UNESCO city of Pisa on your next Tuscan vacation…it will be a truly enriching tourist experience!
