Review Details:
We enjoyed two weeks at Villa Celeste and particularly loved the outside area where the pool and surrounds are excellent for swimming and relaxing and enjoying company. The building is lovely and solid and the furnishings and fittings are charming. There are lots and lots of decorative pieces and collections to enjoy - we were continually finding things we had not noticed before!

The rural setting is lovely with views up to Cortona and the surrounding countryside while being close to all amenities by car (I recommend hiring a car as most things are not in walking distance unless you are fit and keen for the exercise!) We were made very welcome by the owners who appear to live in an adjoining property - we received lovely welcome cakes and some fresh vegetables.
The farm house is charming and rustic and has a number of living spaces and you need to think about how to use them eg not all the rooms were accessible unless you can climb stairs. We found there was plenty of room for 9 of us to stay comfortably and there were beds to spare. The property was clean and attractive and equipped with the things you need - a few things like the iron were a little hard to find as the place is very big!
All in all we loved Villa Celeste and its quirks and have taken home lots of happy memories of our time there. I rate it as very good.
Things to do from Villa Celeste
There is plenty to do and we still have a list of things to on another trip. Making time to swim and relax by the pool should be a priority!
There are some great restaurants close by and we went more than once to our two favourites: La Loggetta at Cortona and Cantanapoli at Camucia (great fish clams mussells etc) We also had a great casual meal and on another occasion take away pizzas from Quo Vadis at Camucia - lovely people. For the absolute best coffee and pastries go to Vannellis at Camucia on side street near the station - award winning barista and brilliant pastry chefs (and cheap!). There are many more good restaurants especially in Cortona to choose from.
Cortona is a short ride up the hill and you can spend lots of time exploring it - plenty of restaurants, bars and shops as well as the town itself and the beautiful churches and panoramic views. The train station at Camucia can get you to most places - there is a direct service to Arezzo and Florence - we drove to the train station and took the train for day trips to both of these. The villa is a great place to explore from - we also loved our excursions to Montepulciano (wine tasting a must - we enjoyed Cantuccis winery and cellars) and Pienza; others in our group enjoyed a day trip to Perugia and went further south to Sarrano. We also went to the shoe factory/outlet at Ambra and returned via Civitella di Val di Chiana (beautiful small quiet hill top town where the male population was massacred in WW2). Another lovely day was spent in Siena.
