If you are looking to have easy access to the wealth of museums, churches, gardens, restaurants, bars, cafes, shops, and other tourist attractions that can be found in the incomparable city of Florence but you still want some space, privacy, and natural beauty all around you and you would prefer to be in the famously lovely Tuscan countryside, then we think that the incredible La Ripresa is the ideal option among our Tuscany villas.

Sleeping up to four in two bedrooms, with one bathroom, this charming little villa looks like something plucked from the pages of a storybook and is a converted old stone watermill located in the lush greenery of the Mugello valley, just 36 kilometres away from the cosmopolitan delights and cultural exploits of Florence, making daytrips to the city easy as well as outings to nearby towns such as Vicchio (the pretty birthplace of Giotto and Fra Angelico) and Borgo San Lorenzo and attractions like the Barberino Designer Outlet mall and Lake Bilancino (where you can try sports like caneoing, sailing, and windsurfing).

It is also just impossibly idyllic. Surrounded by a 1000 square metre garden, this pretty stone villa is right on a river (as to be expected from a former mill) and is surrounded by trees and plants. If you’re looking to immerse yourself in nature, breathe some sweet and fresh air, relax, and recuperate during a vacation in Tuscany, few other spots could be as perfectly suited as La Ripresa.

The property itself has been simply decorated but boasts lots of delightful traditional and typically Tuscan details and features including windows with shutters, a little loggia for dining al fresco, exposed beam ceilings and stone walls, brick arches, an old fireplace, and a pretty little kitchen and bathroom with patterned tiles. Those, therefore, who are after a very charmingly Tuscan gem with character to spare, will be pretty pleased with this totally unique villa.

On the ground floor, one finds: the covered loggia with a simple plastic table and four chairs that is a pretty little spot where light and shade dance in past the trees; a little living room with two old armchairs, a fireplace, and more antique furniture in rich deep wood; this leads through a brick arch into the dining area with another table for four and a television; and this opens into a charming and compact kitchen with white tiles, wooden cabinets, a four burner stove, an oven, a stone farmhouse sink, a dishwasher, and a spacious fridge-freezer.

Then, on the first floor, there are the simple but characteristic bedrooms. One is a double bedroom with an old cast iron bed, marble-topped wooden bedside locker, delicate diffused lighting from the traditional lace ceiling lamp shade and bedside lamp, a massive wardrobe, and an impressive antique set of drawers with a mirror on top. The other bedroom has two single beds made from wood and less furniture but more decorative details such as an old tuba, children’s artwork, and a pretty old clown figurine, as well as a bedside locker between the beds and another one of those lacy lampshades hanging from the ceiling.

The bathroom can be found on the first floor as well and is another room featuring mininal decoration but plenty of character with a brick arch over the sink and mirror, delicate floral-patterned tiles on the walls, and a toilet, bidet, and shower.
Simple enough but full of charm and very comfortable, this is truly one of our most unique and memorable little holiday rentals in Tuscany, ideal for anyone after something with character and a story to tell, rather than a more sleek and modern property with all of the bells and whistles.
