Il Marubbio

Ivy-covered stone walls, leafy surroundings, exposed-beam ceilings, antique furnishings, ornate and pretty light fixtures, terracotta floors worn down gently over time, tasteful modernisations alongside traditional charm... all this and more is available at the picture-perfect Il Marrubio. For those who really care about interiors and are after a bit of pastoral bliss, some cottagecore inspiration, and an escape from the daily rhythms of life to a villa that is very much like something plucked from the pages of a fairytale, this is a perfect vacation rental in Tuscany. The only problem? You may never want to leave!

Il Marubbio, living room

Located in a panoramic spot, overlooking the green Mugello valley, close to the village of Vicchio di Mugello with its little lake, 700 metres from Vicchio, the birthplace of famous Renaissance painters Giotto and Fra Angelico, 35km from Florence (with the local train service allowing you to get to the city easily and in just over half an hour), 25km from Barberino and its famous Barberino Designer Outlet (with over 100 shops from major Italian and international fashion brands), and not far from Bilancino Lake (where you can enjoy canoeing, sailing, and windsurfing). Firenze Peretola airport, meanwhile, is just 45km away.

In addition to being in a charming location, not too far away frommajor attractions and excellent amenities but in a dreamy and pretty part of Tuscany that is peaceful and lovely and perfect for some R&R, the house itself has a wonderful private garden. Spread out over an impressive area of around 2,000sqm, it has a little spot for al fresco dining and a barbecue, plants and flowers and trees all around, and pretty walkways and places from which to admire the views. There is also private parking for up to three cars on the grounds.

Il Marubbio, kitchen

Il Marrubio itself is a typical but particularly spacious and tastefully finished country villa in Tuscany. Restored carefully to preserve its rustic charm, it is a five bedroom and three bathroom house spread over two floors. On the ground floor, you will find the living room, with a massive old fireplace and a sofa, two armchairs, and a coffee table located in front of it. A gorgeous antique chandelier with coloured floral designs hangs from the high exposed-beam ceiling overhead, bookcases stuffed with books and games and another armchair tucked in by the window, as well as an antique desk plus interesting works of art round out this cosy and delightful room.

The kitchen is also on this floor and has been modernised with more recent cabinetry and well-equipped with a new oven and stovetop but little touches throughout continue to reference the country house setting, preventing the renovation from clashing with this charming historic home – the porcelain handles on the cabinets, the country-style sink, the antique dresser, and other styling choices. The dining table in this room also allows up to eight guests to dine together in this welcoming heart of the home.

Finally, the ground floor is completed with the delightful studio or office space where there is a big old desk as well as other antiques and charming works of art, giving anyone in your party who is looking for some peace and quiet a space in which to retreat – or maybe to finally start working on that novel they’ve always meant to write with Tuscany as a perfect inspiration!

Il Marubbio, double bedroom

On the first floor, the charm only continues with the sweet bedrooms. With five bedrooms in total, there are two double rooms, two with twin beds, and a child’s room with three single beds. The master bedroom has a stunning four-poster bed and weighty and impressive antique furnishings. One of the twin rooms has a pair of darling matching red iron beds, floating hidden bookshelves, and an antique washstand. The other twin room has two black iron beds with gorgeous big headboards and footboards and a stunning old vanity. Then, the children’s room has three cute beds with curved white wooden headboards and wooden decorations of the characters of Disney’s Snow White on the walls. The three bathrooms all have showers but one has a giant shower cubicle with a large waterfall shower-head as well as another handheld, wall-mounted shower-head over a bench. A final room on this floor acts as another living room with a television and two sofas.

Finally, on the grounds there is also an annex room which acts as a handy service room to the house, with a washing machine and ironing amenities inside.

Available from €210 per night, this stylish gem is a dream for those who love Tuscan interiors and who might be looking for a bit of inspiration when decorating their own home but is also the perfect place to simply get away from it all and live it up in cosy and tasteful surroundings in an especially lush and gorgeous part of Tuscany. With availability still for most of July 2024 but booking up fast, be sure to secure your stay ASAP in Il Marubbio if this is exactly the kind of spot in Tuscany that you have been dreaming of escaping to before it’s too late!
