Many visitors are drawn to a vacation rental in Montecatini Terme as this very pretty and historic Tuscan town is surrounded by lush green landscapes that are typical of the region and boasts natural thermal springs as well as top-notch spa facilities – making it a perfect destination for those dreaming of getting away from it all. However, if you are visiting the town in the coming months, you might also appreciate that it is hosting an incredible temporary art exhibition of the works of renowned 20th century artist and surrealist Joan Miró. Sweetening the deal for those already considering a getaway with Tuscany Villas in this extraordinary part of the world, it is a great reason to book your holiday rental in Montecatini Terme asap!

After opening in December 2024, the exhibition, Joan Miró in Montecatini Terme, is being held in the Mo.C.a Civic Gallery - Montecatini Contemporary Art until the 29th of June 2025. Mo.C.a itself was inaugurated back in 2012 and one of the most famous works on display in this charming local museum is the Dona Voltada d'un Vol d'Ocells, which is one of the five largest works in the world that was ever created by Miró. Now the gallery and this new exhibition is telling the story of this piece, which was specifically created in 1980 for Montecatini on the occasion of the Maggio Miró.

Maggio Miró was the largest cultural event that was ever organised in the town and was a celebration of the artist that was conceived of by Carlos Franqui. Visitors to the exhibition will also learn about the circumstances that meant the guest of honour himself never actually did make it to this massive event organised in his name back in 1980 – quite the tale!

The gallery is also currently playing host to more of the great Master’s works, including a selection of his lithographs, signed documents relating to the artist, photographs of him throughout his life and work, some of his famous and iconic posters, as well as a host of other unpublished materials that have been loaned to Mo.C.a by private collectors in addition to some of Miró’s own heirs for this special exhibition.

In addition to the works by Miró and the documents and paraphernalia relating to the artist, the exhibition furthermore showcases works of other artists from all over the globe, curated to add to the story and visual interest of the piece, which is celebrating its 45th year in town in 2025.

Best of all is the fact that this museum is actually free to enter, as is this special exhibition, so those who book a villa in Montecatini Terme and are considering a visit while relaxing in town can easily pop in to see the work of this great surrealist and 20th century Master, as well as the rest of the lovely museum, whenever they please – at no extra cost! It is just one more great reason to come and explore this gorgeous town and spa destination if you have been dreaming of a perfect holiday in Tuscany.

Don’t miss out, plan your escape in Tuscany today and pick the gorgeous Montecatini Terme with all of its natural beauty, relaxation, pretty surroundings, and cultural offerings while this fascinating exhibition is still taking place.
