Historical castle "Forte Filippo", from the 15th century. 15 apartments in the residence. 1 km from the centre of Porto Ercole, 7 km from the centre of Orbetello, 13 km from the centre of Porto Santo Stefano, in a quiet position on top of a hill, 2 km from the sea. For shared use: terrace (300 m2), garden furniture. Heating available only from 25.09. to 07.05.. 800 m long steep, narrow motor access. 150 m stepped path to the house. Parking at 150 m on the premises. Supermarket 1 km, sandy beach "Feniglia" 2 km. Sports harbour 3 km, marina 3 km, golf course (18 hole) 7 km. Nearby attractions: Giardino dei Tarocchi 30 km, Cittá di Cosa, Ansedonia 15 km. Please note: no lift. The tap water has no drinking water quality. Please note: during the summer months water shortage may arise. Therefore the houses are equipped with cisterns with water from deep wells (not always drinking water quality). The access road is partly without side protection.

Sadly, the title of these posts will have ruined the ending of the story, however, the details still make it worthy of being told. We discussed the rather tumultuous life and times of the great Italian painter Caravaggio in the last post. In it, we learned about how, while he may be remembered for his art, his murkier history is often overlooked today. A bit of a bad boy who was fond of brawling and drinking, one of his disagreements went too far and ended up in murder, causing Caravaggio to spend the latter years of his life on the run for his crimes.

The vibrant town of Porto Ercole is situated on the eastern promontory of Monte Argentario which juts out on the Tuscan coastline.

Monte Argentario was once an island but several thousand years ago two strips of land called tombolos were formed by waves and tides pushing sand together and upwards above the water’s surface.

These two strips connected the island to the mainland and since then its two main towns have become popular tourist spots to visit. Porto Ercole is the most popular tourist hub with its stylish shops and classy restaurants. It’s also renowned as being one of the finest nightlife districts in the Maremma!

Porto Ercole is a beautiful Tuscan town located on the coast, on the eastern promontory of Monte Argentario, which was once an island but was connected to the mainland by two strips of land called tombolos that were formed by waves and tides forcing sand upwards and together several thousand years ago. Known for its chic shops, excellent restaurants, and vibrant nightlife, this pretty seaside town is already an excellent choice for a vacation on the Tuscan Coast. Taking place each May for around three days, usually during the first week of the month, the Night of the Pirates is a fun and unusual event that is unique to the town. During the three days of the festival, the town is overrun by pirates (or visitors and locals dressed as pirates, we should say) and there are several different events that take place over the course of the few days. It is a colourful and fun festival that takes local history and brings it to life in a vibrant, raucous, and campy way. The streets and establishments of the Old Town are decorated to evoke an earlier time, when real pirates would often the target the towns of Argentario.

Porto Ercole is a stunning port town in Maremma on the Tuscan Coast. It is a vibrant, lively town with one of the best nightlife scenes in the area and is home to high class restaurants, glamorous bars and nightclubs, chic boutiques, pretty beaches, impressive yachts lined up in rows and colourful buildings crowded next to clear blue seas and skies. The town and its locals are quite unlike the typically humble people of Maremma but, instead, are a little more glamorous and interested in luxury. As a result, you'll find yourself walking amongst exceptionally stylish figures and, occasionally, a celebrity looking to experience the joys of Tuscany for themselves.
