Ivan Bruschi was an internationally famous antique collector from Arezzo whose last wish was to establish a foundation to spread the love of art, antiques and culture. His wish was granted and the Bruschi Foundation has since become a hugely important patron of culture in Arezzo.

One of the greatest feats of the foundation was the establishment of the House-Museum of Ivan Bruschi which houses Bruschi's personal collection, set within the 13th-century Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo located in the heart of Arezzo.

Roberto Benigni's 1997 Oscar-winning masterpiece, “La Vita è Bella” (“Life is Beautiful”), is an incredibly famous movie that is set during WWII and tells the story of a Jewish Italian man named Guido Orefice, who meets and falls in love with the beautiful Dora and they have a son, Giosue, together.

Their incredibly ideal and happy family life is turned upside when Guido and Giosue are separated from Dora and are taken to a concentration camp. While there, in order to shelter his son from the horrors of his surroundings, Guido weaves an elaborate story that their time in the camp is merely a game. Filmed across several sets, the centrepiece of the beginning of the film, however, is the lovely Tuscan city of Arezzo.

Today in our Villa Spotlight article here at Tuscany Villas we will be taking a look Il Pratino Di Solata, located in the province of Arezzo and laying in between Arezzo and Siena.

This quaint country house is definitely off the beaten path, you won't find large highways leading to this property. But for those who want privacy and to escape the tourist traps, this property is perfect. The gorgeous views of the hills of Chianti and the beautiful Arno valley that this villa affords can not be found in a city apartment or something closer to town.

Pappardelle Al Maiale

This recipe is a favorite of mine, and will soon be a favorite of yours. While the dish does take quite a while to cook, much of it is simply letting it simmer for hours and letting the aroma take over your house. This is a meal your family and friends will be begging to enjoy again and again.

Pork Roast - cut into large chunks

5 med. carrots

1 small heart of celery

4 pieces of bacon

1 large onion (yellow or white)

2 tsp. salt

1 tps. pepper

1 carton beef broth

2 cups red wine (Cabernet Sauvignon is recommended)

2 tbsp. olive oil

1 12oz can tomato puree

There are more towns in Tuscany than most of us will ever hear about, much less visit. When you are planning your trip to Tuscany its best to plan ahead for where you want to go; what do you definitely want to see? Some people make sure to visit San Gimignano, the small town with the big towers. Some people have to see Florence, the big city of Tuscany with plenty of history, architecture and beauty to keep you busy during your stay. It doesn't have the big city feel you'll get in Florence, Rome or Milan.

Giostra Del Saracino

As small of a region as Tuscany is compared to many other vacation areas of the world, it has full of a diversity and uniqueness that keeps people coming back year after year. You can visit a town several times, and still not see everything it has to offer, and the festivals that are so prevalent across Tuscany are a prime example of this. Arezzo is host to an annual event called the Giostra del Saracino, in which the town divides itself up into sections and each section picks a champion to represent it in the event.

The event dates back to a medieval times and has been celebrated every year since. The competitors charge an armored target, with points being awarded for accuracy.
