Beautiful, independent villa with private pool created from the restoration of an ancient hamlet of houses dating back to the 12th century at the time owned by the family Cerchi, a prominent family in Florence who made his fortune through trade and finance. Next to the villa there also is a small chapel dedicated to the Blessed “Umiliana” of the family Cerchi, whose remains rest in the church of Santa Croce in Florence.
This property is well kept and offers large outside areas and welcoming interiors furnished in a rustic style.
The villa’s location is tranquil and panoramic and offers an ideal destination for those seeking for a peaceful holiday on the hills surrounding Florence (Florence is approx. 35 km away and is also accessible by train from the railway station of Rufina).
On the premises (completely separated from the villa), there also are 6 apartments with pool that can be rented together with the villa for large groups.
The access to the property is via an unpaved but well-maintained road suitable to any cars.
Distances: Acone with groceries 1 km away, Rufina with shops of all kinds and railway station (frequent connection to Florence) 4 km away, Pontassieve 15 km, Florence 35 km away, Arezzo 80 km, San Gimignano 82 km, Siena 100 km away. The Chianti Classico region is within 40 – 80 km.
At guests’ disposal: Large garden with private swimming-pool (10 x 4 m - depth 1,5 m – open from 01/05 through 30/09), spacious terrace running along the villa’s perimeter. Guests can also enjoy use of billiards and of a barbecue area to be shared with the 6 apartments nearby.
WI-FI internet access provided outside (approx. 20 m from the villa) and to be shared with the 6 apartments.
Parking within the grounds.
Extra Services: Baby bed available at € 25,- / per week (payment on the spot). Maid service available by arrangement (€ 15,- / per hour to be paid locally). The products of the owners’ farming estate (olive oil and honey) are available for tasting. Upon request possibility of organizing wine tasting (wines from the most important producers of the area).
Small pets are allowed (free of charge).

Have you been dreaming about a vacation in Tuscany? Well, now is a perfect time to plan a trip as many new direct flights to the region have been added!

Traditionally, many choosing to holiday in the area had to fly into Bologna but Pisa and Florence are actually the two major international airports within the region itself and might be more convenient arrival points depending on where you will be staying. When my family decided that they wanted to visit a winery the very next day, late in the afternoon, I spent a rather panicked evening researching somewhere that suited their rather demanding stipulations and would be able to take us on such short notice.

I eventually (after much hair pulling and cursing under my breath) found Agriturismo Frascole and saw they did daily tours and tastings and were about a half hour drive from our villa. I rang early the next morning and they were able to take us at 3, as I requested. Little did I know how fortuitously excellent a selection it would prove to have been.

The road up to the winery was not easy. However, Frascole is located near the charming town of Dicomano, high up in Tuscan Apennines in the middle of an unspoiled area of natural beauty. The historic buildings, surrounding fields of the vineyard and incredible views over the mountains and valleys below were truly breathtaking.

Tuscany is a photogenic place with picture-perfect views and attractions around every corner. From the rolling hills topped by medieval villages and the valleys filled with vineyards, to the ideal Renaissance town of Pienza and staggering architectural gems of Florence, there are all sorts of must-see sights that you'll want to see with you own eyes and then capture on film forever.

Some of these things are well-known and obvious but there are some that you might never heard of before. This author has chosen some of her favourites to share with you; some of Tuscany's most photogenic sights and picturesque spots that you must track down!

1. The hills surrounding Dicomano

I recently wrote about the excellent Agriturismo Frascole, a winery in the Tuscan Apennines, where I had a wonderful day tasting wine with my family.

The Pontassieve pyramid hills are three unusual formations that stand at a height of around 140 metres. Situated around 15 kilometres east of Florence city, these three hills, varying in size share a fascinating trait…they’re shaped almost perfectly like four cornered pyramids!

From an aerial view faint outlines can be noticed but due to being covered by trees and vegetation, much of the line definition is lost. However a ground view presents a much more linear appearance. They stand along a N-S/E-W orientations, a geometric pattern equal to the belt stars of Orion.

9. Sovana

Sovana is a DOC red or rosé wine that is produced in the south of Tuscany. Named after the ancient Etruscan settlement of Sovana, it received its DOC status in 1999.

There are lots of different wineries that one can choose to visit while on vacation in Tuscany but if you have found a luxury villa in Florence and are looking for a pretty, respected, and nearby winery to head to on a day trip out of the city then few options could be as ideal as Castello di Nipozzano. Located high on a hillside in the municipality of Pelago in the Chianti wine region, near Florence, overlooking the towns of San Francesco and Pontassieve and the ancient Roman road, the Cassia Vetus, it has long been a point of strategic importance in guarding the city of Florence. It has also been long recognised as a rather special architectural gem and has been a winery that is opened to the public and a foodie destination since the 20th century. A truly magical and utterly beautiful place to sample some delicious local wines, it is a must for wine-lovers who are spending time in Florence.

House and surrounding is very nice, but needs some refurnishing & renovation and the Service was not convincing

kitchen not adequatlyx equipped for large groups(only 5 coffee spoons for 14 People, no pans and pots), freezer / fridge in the kitchen was not working, no dish towels etc.

No sun umbrellas, no covers for the sun beds.

No WiFi

[counter comment from the owner] Like I told the guests, the fridge in the kitchen was working normally and in another room they had another fridge with freezer available.
The kitchen is equipped normally but we however immediately gave the guests what they needed (more pots and pans).
The wifi did not work for one day because of a summer storm. Some guests however had equipment that did not connect to the our wifi network but that does not depend on us. Also for the rest, once they asked me (spoons, tea towels) I proceeded immediately. The only thing we did not have are pillows for the sun beds because they are soft beds like you use on the beach, we have however purchased those now.
