Paradise In The Tuscan Archipelago

La Gorgona
The Tuscan coast is filled with sandy beaches that fill up during the summer months. Just outside of the mainland, you'll find a variety of islands to visit. The islands of Giglio and Gorgona are two of the most beautiful destinations to choose from in the archipelago that lies just off Tuscany. If you're looking for a place to enjoy the beach without being surrounded by hundreds of other tourists, these relatively isolated and well protected islands are the ideal destination.

From viewing rare marine life to taking a dip in the Tyrrhenian Sea, you can soak up the sun's rays and enjoy all that the waters off of Tuscany have to offer.

Visitors can arrive in Giglio by taking a ferry that leaves Santo Stefano port on an hourly basis, usually every day of the week. With the high volume of demand during the busy summer months, this ferry departs even more frequently.
Giglio Castello
There are four beaches located here, including Coldone, Campese, Arenelle, and Cornelle beaches. Those seeking a soft sandy beach to lounge on should choose Cornelle beach, because the others are rockier. The Gigliese granite found here is used to build many famous buildings in Rome. You can also pay a visit to the old town on the island, which has medieval walls, and offers sights such as Giglio Castle and the church of San Pietro Apostolo.

The island of Gorgona, by contrast, is the northernmost island that you will find the Tuscan Archipelago.
Giglio Porto
It is most famous for its diverse wildlife, so birdwatchers will be in heaven scoping out the marine birds found here. It is only one of five islands in the entire world where you can see the Corsican Finch, for example. The island is under the protection of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park, which helps keep its beaches and waters clean and makes it a safe haven for wildlife. Remnants of a prehistoric forest remain, with ancient oak trees and newer pine woods.

To get out into nature and enjoy all that the islands of Giglio and Gorgona have to offer, it's helpful to rent a villa along the Tuscan coast.

This will give you quick and easy access by ferry to these stunningly beautiful islands. You can contact us by email or phone to arrange your accommodation, and feel free to browse our huge selection of  holiday rentals in Tuscany to find the perfect specialty apartment for your seaside getaway.
