San Gimignano is a small, medieval hill town in Siena Tuscany province of north-central Italy. The town is famous for white wine and tall medieval towers, which may be seen from several miles outside the town.

It was founded in the 3rd century BC by the Etruscans. It was the stopping point for Catholic pilgrims on their way to Rome and Vatican during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance period.

The patrician families of the town built 72 towers-houses as symbols of their wealth and power. Only 14 of these towers have survived the test of time.

The town also boasts of several masterpieces of Italian art of the fourteenth and the fifteenth century by famous artists such as Benozzo Gozzoli and Pollaiuolo.

San Gimignano is also home to several famous museums. The Sacred Art Museum was founded in 1930 to preserve the materials that came from the dome and the territories of the churches.

The Etruscan Museum houses a collection of restored and classified objects from Ranza and Cellole. The Town Hall Picture Gallery is the Town Hall of 13th century, with a 14thcentury tower and important frescoes painted by Azzo di Masetto, Lippo Memmi e Memmo di Filippuccio.

The Santa Fina Grocery Archaeological has a collection of Etruscan-roman and medieval collection of ceramic objects and medicinal glasses. The Ornithologic Museum contains the bird collection that Contessa Panciatichi-Ximenes gave to the local village.

San Gimignano also boasts of several beautiful monuments including the Piazza della Cisterna, Piazza del Duomo, La Rocca, Vicolo dell'Oro - Via delle Romite and the Piazza Sant'Agostino.
