Visit The Spectacular Val Di Merse For An Exciting Holiday!

For an exciting tourist experience during your holiday to Tuscany, take a few days to explore the enchanting Val di Merse. It’s a community of towns and villages encased by the River Merse and the River Farma that has been relatively untouched over the millennia. Visitors would thoroughly enjoy several day trips through its main towns of Chiusdino, Monticiano, Murlo, Radicondoli and Sovicille as well as some nearby medieval hamlets. Visit the town of Chiusdino, is the birthplace of San Galgano, the famous saint who built a nearby church called The Abbey of San Galgano. A circular chapel close to this famous tourist site is thought to be where the legend of the Sword in the Stone originates! The charming grey stone houses, narrow winding roads and steps that weave through this hilltop town are well worth a visit!

The nearby agricultural and tourist town of Monticiano is a place of artistic and architectural beauty. Visitors would love to take part in local hiking and cycling trails in nearby woodland areas as well as trips to see local monasteries and museums.

The Orange Flag town of Murlo in Val di Merse is home to a spectacular castle and a number of fascinating Etruscan sites. It has seen little change over the past seven hundred years and has an abundance of beautiful flora, fauna and wildlife. Tourists will enjoy views of the walled town and the typical Tuscan vernacular architecture within it.

The hilltop town of Sovicille is an ancient site that was inhabited since the Stone Age. Surrounded by a green forest, this lovely tourist town is home to an ornate church dedicated to St. John the Baptist and many other artistic and historical sites.

The stunning Orange Flag town of Radicondoli is home to the ruins of a once majestic castle. The town is full of stunning architecture, art galleries and museums for tourists to enjoy browsing around. There are also several interesting museums in the Val di Merse, a scattering of mills that were powered by the River Merse for corn grinding or wool weaving and many guided walking tours that will show tourists everything of interest in the area.
