Montescudaio is a medieval town located in the Pisa province of Tuscany, Italy. The town has been in existence since the 11th century and is famous for its excellent red and white wines. The area is known as Val di Cecina, which means “shield maker” in Latin. During Roman rule, a large military presence was located on top of the hill where the village now sits.

The Church of Saint Andrew founded a Benedictine Monastery in the village during the 11th century. This church is the only part of the structure that has survived through the ages and is one of the plentiful historic sites in the Tuscan countryside that you will want to ensure you see.

Some of the best red wines on the Tuscan coast are produced close to the many holiday villas in Montescudaio area, which overlooks the scenic Cecina Valley. From the village you also have panoramic views of the Tuscany Archipelago and Corsican Mountains. It is easy to tour many of the wineries during your visit. The area is known not only for the red wine Montescudaio D.O.C., but also for the production of delicious cereals and olives. From many of the Italy villas in Montescudaio, you can see the very edge of Cape Corso.
