The interior of this 12th century church is truly spectacular with some of the most uniquely carved columns in Tuscany, depicting people, animals and luscious vegetation.
San Quirico is the perfect base from which to explore the vast and beautiful Val d’Orcia. Tourists would enjoy heading out from this town every day in a different direction to see the welcoming towns of Pienza, Montalcino and Montepulciano.
Much of the town’s medieval walls remain standing which are lovely to walk around in the fresh and peaceful morning air.
Piazza della Libertà lies in the heart of San Quirico where the little church of San Francesco stands. It’s also known as the church of the Madonna as it’s now home to the infamous terracotta statue of the Madonna, created by Andrea della Robbia. This exquisite statue was once on display in one of the most beautiful chapels in Tuscany, the Vitaleta chapel.
