Tuscany is a stunning region in Italy that can be best explored by renting a car to go delve into the spots that lie off the beaten tourist track. Most towns and villages can also be reached by bus but many operate perhaps three times a week or less from bigger towns and cities which might not be convenient for holiday makers who want to see as much of this picturesque region as possible.

Choose from a wide range of villas in Tuscany and book a place to stay along your chosen route of exploration by car.

Most of our best holiday villas are located in the countryside, so, if you have a car, it will be easier for you to reach your accommodation and to go to the shop or to the restaurant during your stay.
If you rent a car, you can travel at your ease along the intricate network of small winding roads that lead into welcoming Tuscan communes. Generally in most towns and villages of Tuscany, the speed limit is around 50 kilometres per hour entering and 70 kilometres per hour leaving.

On the autostrada, the highway connecting most of the major towns and cities of Tuscany, the speed limit is 130 kilometres per hour.

The fuel is expensive here so be sure to rent a car with a small engine and high efficiency if you want to get the most out of your miles. Then when you reach your destinations, park up on the town outskirts and walk around them to experience the best of what it has to offer. Most of the smaller towns and villages are pedestrianized in the centre anyway as they are so easy to walk around.

By renting a car to explore Tuscany, you have the wonderful opportunity of stopping off in a town of your choice for a splendid hot lunch.

Or why not pick up some local cheeses, breads and cured meats from a bustling town market to picnic with in the Tuscan countryside if the weather is nice.

You can park up whenever you choose to admire the views and can see many more tourist attractions this way without having to waiting on buses or trains. Of course, bigger towns and cities are better connected by train and buses with better frequency so these are also viable options when planning out your adventurous trip.

But renting a car is the best way to see the heart of Tuscany and fully appreciate its authentic culture, cuisine and scenery!
