Under their influence, Montevarchi flourished, growing considerably in size and wealth. Its main industries were wool and silk production. Montevarchi remained as part of Florentine territory until the first half of the 18th century before eventually becoming part of Arezzo province.
Today Montevarchi is renowned for its clothing production. During World War II it made large volumes of felt hats, shoes and clothes for women and children.
There is much to see and do in Montevarchi such as the pretty 13th century church of San Lorenzo, the Cloister of Cennano and the Della Robbia Temple. History lovers would most certainly enjoy a few hours of browsing around the Palaeontology museum in Montevarchi which is situated in the ex- Franciscan convent of San Ludovico.
