If you have planned a trip to Tuscany, you might be scheduling or lining up all sorts of outings. I mean, there is absolutely no shortage of things to see or do, is there? There are endless museums, galleries, churches, architectural gems, oddities, eateries and outdoor pursuits to check out. While there are lots of cultural treasures to be seen and while Tuscany is more well-known for these things, there is also a great wealth of more active pursuits to be enjoyed from hiking and cycling to diving and sailing.
There are great swathes of beautiful, unspoiled countryside in Tuscany that facilitate these outdoor pursuits and the Tuscan coast, in particular, is a perfect destination for stretching your legs, getting some fresh air and having fun. 1. Golfo di Baratti, Piombino
The Golfo di Baratti, or Baratti Gulf, is a stunning stretches of coast that we have mentioned before are one of the most beautiful in Tuscany. It boasts pristine beaches, beautiful natural surroundings and a rich historic and cultural heritage that goes back to the Etruscans. Already a popular location for its free beaches, swimming, diving and fun beachside experience that is relaxed and often draws comparisons to the Caribbean, Baratti is also an excellent surf destination. It has shallow waters that make it perfect for learners and younger surfers and gentle waves that are great for both novices and longboards.
2. Lillatro, Rosignano Solvay
This stretch of the Maremma is a popular one among surfers and is actually busy through most of the year. Be aware, it will be a little less friendly to beginners but is perfect for intermediate to advanced surfers and has ideal simple waves for more advanced surfing manoeuvres.
