Surfing
After Sicily and Sardinia, the Tuscan Coast is one of the most popular parts of Italy for water sports and for good reason; there are beautiful beaches, great facilities, perfect waves and a range of locations that are suitable for people of all levels of competency. As we mentioned in the last post, Tuscany is a particularly good location for those interested in surfing so if you can't make it to Hawaii or California this year – or if you're looking for those surfing vibes with a Tuscan twist – just find a vacation rental on the Tuscan Coast.
3. Versilia & Viareggio

Versilia and Viareggio are considered the surfing capitals of Tuscany and Versilia was where Italian surfing was born when, in the 70s, two class-mates attended the School of Art “Stagio Stagi” in Pietrasanta, saw a film about surfing, and decided to make a surfboard. Over the years, the sport became more and more popular and now you will see lots of surfers on the waves at Viareggio, the docks of Lido di Camaiore, Marina di Pietrasanta and Forte dei Marmi. A perfect stretch of the coast where wind, swell, direction, tides and seafloor meet perfectly to create a very special wave condition and this, paired with the history of surfing in the area, has made it a popular surfing location.

4. Punta Ala

Punta Ala is a beloved and well known surfing location in Tuscany that is favoured by surfers because of the currents generated there. A 5km long beach, it is exceptionally beautiful place but also has excellent facilities for surfing and lots of other water sports as well and is home to many clubs, rental shops and schools.

Of course, there are plenty of other wonderful surfing locations and excellent beaches located all along the Tuscan Coast so, if you are a passionate surfer, Tuscany really is the Italian location for you!
