The Best Cafés In Florence II

Continuing on from our last article, in which we introduced some of the best cafés in Florence, here are some more locations that are historic, dynamic, cultured, interesting, serve up great food and are perfect for sipping on a perfectly made coffee and just watching the world go by.

Once you have found a luxury villa in Florence and are spending time exploring the city, dashing around from place to place in an attempt to see everything on your bucket list, stop by one of these wonderful institutions and just relax for a little while.

From a historic gem with a long established reputation in the gastronomic and cultural realms of the city to a more recent and experimental venue that combines literature, art, culture, food, coffee and wine, the cafés featured on this list are truly special destinations.

3. Caffè Rivoire

The Caffè Rivoire is located in the beautiful Piazza della Signoria in Florence and was established in 1872 by Enrico Rivoire, a chocolatier to the Savoy royal family who was from Turin and brought the torinese tradition of hot chocolate to the Renaissance city. In the beginning, the recipe for Rivoire chocolate was secret and the café soon became famous, thanks to the delicacies and its wonderful location. It became a hotspot for artists, politicians, aristocrats, and celebrities alike and remains a very popular institution.Today, Rivoire is a place where chocolate-lovers from all over come to enjoy coffee and chocolate desserts prepared, according to old recipes, by pastry chefs and master chocolatiers who work in laboratories on the lower floor of the building. You can also eat full meals in the restaurant and choose from a wide range of wines and cocktails. However, hot chocolate remains the signature item on the menu and is a must-try as you sit outside and take in the Palazzo Vecchio, the Fountain of Neptune, and the Loggia dei Lanzi.

4. Todo Modo

Todo Modo, meanwhile, couldn't be more different. It is a cultural gem, yes, but it is contemporary, cool and lacks traditional Florentine elegance. Instead, you'll find Scandinavian style design that is clean with lots of use of wood and restrained use of colour and ornamentation. An independent bookshop and café with a theatre, Todo Modo is often home to various cultural and artistic events. In fact, one never knows what they will find upon entering the premises!

A constant, however, is the option of 15,000 titles to choose from, the wine bar, great coffee, wifi and relaxed atmosphere of the location. Open every day but Monday from 10am to 8pm and located on Via dei Fossi, it is easy to walk past but the perfect spot for recharging from tourist crowds, hectic schedules and hot days.

Our next piece has our final picks of cafés to try out on your next visit to Florence so be sure to read on and pencil in some time for that relaxation that Tuscany is famous for.
