In our final post in this series, we have some final, more practical, tips on staying cool and enjoying yourself despite the heat in Florence this summer. Once you have found a luxury villa in Florence, you want to be able to enjoy your holiday despite the potential heat waves and tourist crowds. So, in order to avoid having a wonderful trip ruined by discomfort, take note of our tips for making the most of summer in Florence.

5. Take precautions before leaving the house!

Make sure to close all curtains, shutters and windows before you leave your rental property. This stops the place from turning into a greenhouse during the day and will ensure that you have a lovely cool place to return to at the end of a long day of exploring.

6. In fact, take extra precautions!

If you have trouble sleeping in hot weather, a good trick that might sound strange but works, is to fold up your sheet and put it in the fridge. This will help you cool down at night and get the sleep you need to have energy for enjoying Florence.

7. Dress appropriately.

Some of us might be addicted to all-black outfits all the time but light-coloured clothes will help keep you cool. It is also better to wear loose-fitting clothes that are made from natural, breathable fabrics such as cotton and linen. However, if you are wearing tank tops and shorts, bring a scarf or sweater to drape around your shoulders or waist when you have plans on visiting churches. As we mentioned in the last post in this series, you may not be admitted inside otherwise.

8. And get the right accessories.

Make sure to bring a hat and, maybe, even a fan! Both will become indispensable accessories during any city break in Italy in the summer.

9. Take a siesta.

Most places close between 2 and 5pm during the summer so why not truly embrace being in Italy and go take a nap yourself? When in Rome (or Florence, as the case may be) and all that!

10. Protect your skin.

This may seem obvious but many people are so keen to get a “healthy” glow on vacation that they lose all sense. Make sure to wear sunscreen and bring a bottle to top up during the day. Believe us, your skin will thank you for it.

Now that you're prepared for the potential weather, why not check out more of the activities Florence has to offer and get planning your holiday?
