Giannutri is a very special island in the Tuscan Archipelago. Crescent-shaped and beautiful, it is the southernmost island in the archipelago and is small, at just 2.6 km2, but an incredible natural gem that has a lot to offer a visitor. If you have found a luxury villa in Tuscany and are in search of a bit of an adventure, it is an ideal spot for a day out.
Here are some great things to do on Giannutri.
Here are some great things to do on Giannutri.

1. Explore the ruins of a Roman Villa
Near Maestra Bay, you will find the rather impressive and striking ruins of a Roman villa that dates to the 2nd century BC. Known as Villa Domizia, or Villa Domitia, it was built by the Gnaeus Domitius Ahenobarbus family, who owned the island and were an ancient patrician family of merchants connected to the Emperor Nero.
2. Discover a Roman shipwreck
As well as the Roman villa, there are plenty of other reminders of them around the island, including some ancient shipwrecks. At Punta Scaletta, you can find the remains of an intact Roman boat and there are further Roman and Etruscan wrecks in the Bay of Spalmatoio.
3. Go Snorkelling or Scuba Diving
All those wrecks and the protected nature of the island means that there is as much to see underwater as above! Come discover Giannutri's fish, corals, underwater meadows of posidonia, and more!
4. Take a dip, in generally
While swimming is forbidden in the southern part of the island and in some of the northern areas, there are some nice spots to swim, specifically in the bays of Spalmatoio and Maestra.
