Tuscany has plenty of activities that adults are sure to enjoy but sometimes children in the group might become tired of waiting in lines or having to stay quiet and calm as they are marched through a parade of museums. An activity that is educational but will keep all ages and groups happy, whether you are holidaying as a family, couple, adult friends, or even on your own, is visiting an aquarium. This gives an opportunity to ooh and aah over the beauty, oddities, dramatics and humour of nature and see creatures that aren't readily visible out in the wild.

The aquarium of Livorno is an especially beautiful and interesting place, filled with many, many different species of aquatic life and located perfectly and centrally at the seafront promenade, just where the famous Mascagni Terrace begins. Once you have found a vacation rental in Livorno, this is just the place to spend a fun afternoon or to stroll through on a quiet morning.

The beautiful Tuscan seaside town of Livorno has a lot to offer visitors. The first Italian movie "La presa di Roma," about the entry of Garibaldi's troops into Rome during the Risorgimento, was made in the city and it was the first of many. Venezia Nuova (literally meaning “New Venice”) is part of the Old Town of Livorno that retains much of the original town layout and architectural features and looks like a mini-Venice.

Meanwhile, Cavallino Matto, located near the city, is Tuscany’s biggest amusement park. Needless to say, there are also all the churches, museums, restaurants, views and other delights that recommend any Tuscan town, in addition.

However, no trip to Livorno is complete without visiting Terrazza Mascagni for a stroll and a photo opportunity.

Film and Tuscany have a long and rich history. In Florence, in 1895, Filoteo Alberini, born in Orte, had the idea to create a tool for projecting film on screen. While a member of the Military Geographical Institute, in 1894 in Piazza della Repubblica he had the chance to see the Edison Kinetoscope, which shows moving images when you look inside a special wooden box. The next year, he created the kinetograph, a precursor to cinema projectors. Sadly, it was only patented a few months after the Lumière brothers patented their projector and went on to become much more famous and rich than Alberini ever did. However, he did go on to open the first Italian movie theatres in 1901 and founded the country's first film company, Cines, in 1905. He then made the first Italian movie "La presa di Roma," about the entry of Garibaldi's troops into Rome during the Risorgimento. He made the film in Livorno and it was the first of many to be made in the city. So began Livorno's long relationship with cinema, continuing to this day. Find a holiday rental in Livorno, wander her cinematic streets and you'll understand why.
