
In the late 13th century in the town of Sinalunga, Tuscany…an outlaw called Ghino di Tacco was born! He began life as a robber along with his father and brother, gaining fame for their outlandish plans to outwit the Siennese Republic who were determined to catch them and bring them to justice.

Their luck did eventually run out when Ghino di Tacco was a teenager and they were arrested and brought to Siena. His father, Tacco di Ugolino was executed in the Piazza del Campo of Siena but somehow Ghino managed to escape the same fate and fled to Radicofani to lay low for a while.
From there he really began to make a name for himself as a loveable bandit who never robbed his victims completely but always left enough behind so they could get by with life.
He even earned a mention in Dante’s ‘Divine Comedy’ in the section about purgatory.

Many elaborate tales weaved around the extraordinary life of Ghino di Tacco but no-one is sure quite how he died and where. Some historical experts believe he died in Rome, others speculate he died in his own birthplace of Sinalunga.
